Passport 5430 Multiservice Access Switch from Nortel Networks is designed for high-end, performance-intensive "Power Branch" environments. The Power Branch is a remote office that has, through the adoption of high bandwidth applications or end-user growth, outgrown the connectivity and performance capabilities of the traditional branch office router. The Passport 5430 solution reduces WAN operating costs by incorporating multiple features to integrate voice, video, and data across a choice of WAN services.

  • High Performance Networking
  • Reduces Operating Costs
  • Provides Flexible Voice Integration
  • Simplifies Maintenance & Serviceability
  • Maximizes Investment Protection

The Passport 5430 is designed with the following key features:

  • High-performance routing
  • Higher speed WAN services of T1 to T3 and OC-3 rates
  • ATM WAN access
  • Voice, video, and data multiplexing
  • Integrated voice over data technologies
  • High performance compression and encryption

A proof-point of the Nortel Networks Unified Networks* promise, the Passport 5430 Multiservice Access Switch solution allows you to manage traffic to match your business needs, such as voice and data prioritization and bandwidth allocation. Unified Networks create greater value for customers worldwide by delivering integrated network solutions spanning data and telephony.

Passport 6400 Multiservice Edge Switch - "The Passport 6400 Multiservice Edge Switch is a multiservice edge switch that consolidates multiple enterprise services into a single, easily managed solution."

Passport 6400 Express Manager provides a rapidly deployable and easy-to-use management solution for networks with five or fewer Passports 6400 switches, providing simultaneous surveillance, configuration, and software distribution. The Passport family of high-performance backbone switches is designed for building and consolidating high-speed enterprise telephony/data networks.

Passport 6400 Express Manager is based on the latest release of the time-tested and field-proven Nortel Networks Open Management System for Passport (OMS-P). Designed for larger Passport networks, OMS-P is based on the Unix operating system and requires a network management platform. Passport 6400 Express Manager, which is designed for small networks, operates on the Microsoft Windows NT operating system and does not require a management platform. This provides administrators with an economical solution and a proven graphical interface to configure, monitor, and maintain small networks of Passport 6400 switches.

Passport 7480  "Passport 7480 is used for access adaptation and backbone switching, supporting circuit emulation, IP, ATM and more."

High-performance, scalable, multiservice switches delivering price-performance, investment protection, and management simplicity

Nortel Networks Passport 7400 Series products are Nortel Networks cost-effective multiservice switch for access adaptation and backbone switching, supporting circuit emulation, IP, frame relay, ATM, and voice services.

Including the 16-slot Passport 7480 and the 5-slot Passport 7440, the series switches offer multiservice access consolidation for speeds up to OC3 and delivers flexible growth and high availability through a scalable redundant hardware architecture.

BN (Backbone Node)
Large networks require a powerful routing device capable of delivering data quickly and efficiently, regardless of the data's protocol, the network's topology, or other factors. Since networked applications are mission-critical in nature, network downtime must be zero.

Users require routers that provide the greatest number of WAN interfaces and can produce the highest throughput from expensive WAN bandwidth. As more applications use multicast and Quality of Service (QoS) features, customers also want their investments to continue to perform into the future. Nortel Networks meets these requirements with the Backbone Node (BN*) router family, consisting of the Backbone Link Node (BLN*) and Backbone Concentrator Node (BCN*).

The Backbone Node router family is a key element of Nortel Networks Unified Networks* strategy, which includes a broad range of end-to-end multiservice solutions. Unified Networks create greater value for customers worldwide by delivering integrated network solutions spanning data and telephony.

As proven by Bradner Labs at Harvard University, a BN router forwards more than twice as many packets as its nearest competitor. This is accomplished through a symmetric multiprocessor architecture, which allows multiple processors to function as a single logical router. The BN router family also features a layered system software architecture and extensive fault management capabilities that isolate malfunctions before other router components are affected.

The routers' symmetric multiprocessor architecture uses multiple Fast Routing Engines (FRE*), multiple ATM Routing Engine (ARE) processor modules, and Nortel Networks 1 Gbps Parallel Packet Express (PPX*) to deliver industry-leading performance and availability. Providing aggregate system-forwarding performance that scales to five million pps, Nortel Networks BCN router supports up to 104 WAN interfaces, 52 LAN interfaces, and 13 ATM or FDDI interfaces. The BLN router supports forwarding performance of over 330,000 pps and up to 32 WAN interfaces, 16 LAN interfaces, and 4 ATM or FDDI interfaces. Comprehensive hardware and software redundancy options provide complete fault resiliency.

ASN (Access Node)
The Nortel Networks Access Stack Node (ASN) is a stackable router architecture providing cost-effective solutions for enterprise network centres. Nortel Networks Switched Internetworking Services (BaySIS) operating in the ASN provides features for today's evolving internetworks with migration to the future of switched intra- and internetworking.

  • Ensures Network Availability
  • Enhances Network Performance
  • Extends Network Connectivity
  • Simplifies Network Administration
  • Provides Low Cost of Ownership

The Nortel Networks Access Stack Node (ASN*) is a stackable router architecture providing cost-effective solutions for enterprise network centers. The ASN provides seamless integration of multiple ASN units stacked together and managed as a single router. Adding interfaces beyond a unit's capacity does not require replacing routers or adding complexity to the network. An ASN stack supports up to 200,000 packets per second with up to 48 network interfaces.

The ASN router supports all major network and bridging protocols, wide area services, and IBM standards. Its fault-resilient system software ensures high network availability. Its LAN and WAN interfaces meet connectivity needs for remote and campus offices, and its data compression coprocessor provides compression over all WAN interfaces, reducing the number of circuits required to meet network bandwidth needs.

The ASN satisfies connectivity, performance, and availability requirements ranging from workgroup or remote site access to high performance, highly available network centers.
